What is the History?
Team
At the most recent Pan American Games the stars and stripes took home silver falling .6638 points short of Olympic Qualification behind Mexico.
Since the new scoring system has been put into effect, Team USA’s strategy is to ‘go big or go home’ by implementing choreography with high declared difficulty. At the Pan American games, all three team routines were entered with the highest declared difficulty with a margin of as much as three points. With the scoring system working in their favor, USA earned 1st place in two out of the three team categories including a base mark-free acrobatic routine.
USA left their mark at the 20th World Aquatics Championships in July of 2023 finishing third place behind China and Japan ahead of Israel and Italy securing their best finish since 2007 in the team category. The history breaking team headed home with two bronze medals and two silver medals across seven categories and eight days of competition.
Solo: Kenny Gaudet
Kenny Gaudet competed in the first ever male solo competition at the 2023 World Aquatics Championships and returned to the US as a double World medalist. He took risks in both categories, increasing his already high difficulty and rising to the occasion.
